Wayfarers Sports Club once again extends a warm welcome to all our visiting teams in 2008.

PARKING               1.  Please co-operate with the parking marshals who will try to ensure best

use of the available area. For preference please park in the long-stay car park in the field near the beginning of the track.

                        2.  Please keep all the gates to the field clear for emergency access.

                        3.  Please respect the no parking areas around the clubhouse.

                        4.  Please remember that the track is a public bridleway, and that parking

is not allowed, even in the ditches!

                        5.  Please do not drive on the pitches.

RUBBISH            Bin liners are distributed to all teams on both days. Please use them to deposit all your rubbish in the 4 skips on site (additional black bags are available from the kitchen).

FOOD                1.  Breakfasts are served in the Clubhouse from 8am on Saturday and

Sunday – order early especially if you are playing in the first matches!

                        2.

                        3.

Please do not use disposable BBQs unless they are raised off the ground so that the grass does not get scorched. We have an obligation to our cricketers to keep the outfield in good condition!

DISCO               In the marquee until 2am on Friday and Saturday evenings.

BAR                  Open from 10am till 1am.

WILDLIFE           The tournament weekend is not really suitable for dogs. If you have to bring your pet with you, it must be kept under the owner’s full control at all times.

Please also be aware that adders have been seen on the ground this year!

SHOP                For all your hockey requirements, Peter Curtis will have his usual wide selection of kit, sticks and other hockey equipment for sale throughout the weekend.

LONGEST AERIAL COMPETITION after play on Saturday – prizes sponsored by TK Hockey

As regards the hockey….(just as an afterthought!!)

Please register with ‘Mike the Mike’ (at the front of the clubhouse) from 9:30am on Saturday

-----------------------------

You all have 5 games each day to play, and 5 games to umpire. It is important for the smooth running of the tournament that teams DO umpire the games they are asked to, and that the completed umpiring cards are returned to Mike straight after each game

-----------------------------

Hockey on Sunday morning will start at 10:00am. Draw sheets will be available from 9:15am

-----------------------------

We welcome your suggestions and comments to improve the quality and your enjoyment of our tournaments. See you all again in 2008 (provisional date 12/13th July

TOURNAMENT RULES

The Rules of Hockey shall apply except as noted below:

1

No squad shall consist of more than 11 players. Not more than 3 men and 3 ladies plus a goalkeeper of either gender shall be on the field of play at any one time.

2

Each team must have a fully kitted goalkeeper on the pitch throughout each game.

3

Players shall not play for more than one team.

4

If your team is not on the pitch at the start of the central timing, the other team may score a goal in your absence.

5

The first named team shall have a choice of ends and will supply a match ball.  The second named team must change in the event of a colour clash.

6

Each match shall last for one period of 14 minutes. There will be a 2 minute interval between each round of matches. All matches will be centrally timed.

7

A penalty corner shall be awarded for a deliberate foul in the defending half.

8

Central timing means the end of the game even if a penalty corner is in progress at the hooter.

9

At penalty corners no more than four players shall be behind the defending line.  The remaining players shall retire to the other circle (as for mini-hockey).

10

In group matches, goals alone will count towards the result with 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.

11

The top 3 teams from each group on the Saturday shall go through to the Shield Competition on Sunday, and the remaining 3 teams from each group shall go through to the Plate Competition on Sunday.

12

The winners of each Shield and Plate Group shall qualify for the relevant  semi-finals.

13

In the case of a tie for 3rd place on Saturday or 1st place on Sunday in any group, the team with the best goal difference shall be the winner. If there is still a tie, the teams concerned shall compete in a barrage of 5 penalty strokes, followed if necessary by ‘sudden death’ penalty strokes.

14

The semi-finals and final will be 10 minutes each way. If the match is drawn, the semi-finals will then be decided by penalty strokes as per rule 13. In the final golden goal extra time of 5 minutes one way will be played before penalty strokes as per rule 13.
